  1. To acquaint the students with the specifics of melodrama and its historical circumstances.
  2. Get acquainted with the basic parts of the genre history.
  3. Familiarize the students with the use of melodrama in today's musical life and its genre overlaps.

Course contents

The subject of Music and Word 4 is devoted to the relation of the spoken word to the musical accompaniment and to the detailed characteristics of the melodrama.

  1. Introduction to the Problem:

an overview of melodramatic genres in chronological order

  1. Forms of scenic melodrama in the 18th century
  2. Scenic melodrama of the 19th century
  3. Concert melody of the 19th century in the world
  4. Concert melody of the 19th century in Bohemia
  5. Concert melodies of the 20th century in the world
  6. Concert melody of the 20th century in Bohemia
  7. Concert melodies of the 21st century in the world
  8. Concert melodies of the 21st century in Bohemia
  9. Melodrama in opera, operetta, musical and stage music
  10. Dramaturgy of the melodrama concert
  11. Dramaturgy of the involvement of melodrama in a concert or orchestral concert
  12. Summary, discussion, types for further continuous self-education
