Course contents

Continuing the main courses „Acting“ and „Stage Design“ and the lecture series „Theatre in Western Culture“, this elective course „Forms of Acting“ is an opportunity to observe, recognize and review issues in the study field. From the very beginning of their „practice“, with gradual experience, the students are guided to a systematic analysis and deeper review of issues in acting in two manners. Self-review (a questionnaire focused on the psychology of acting) and an analysis of „historical examples“ compared to contemporary forms and levels of acting. Comparing their own experience with „examples“ - important representatives of individual creative styles - enabling a double perspective on acting practice: so called „from without“, through observation, description and anlaysis of creative processes of that other, and „from within“, in rehearsals mapping and identifying issues the student encounters in their own role preparations and later in the course of staging experience. Personal stories overlapping object observations and knowledge are directed towards and analysis of general problems: professional relations among acting partners, the actor - text (basis) relationship, actor - director, drama figure - acting figure, collaboration in the staging team.
