Learning outcomes of the course unit

Deepening the approach to study of history and theory of the field, for which it is important to use as a basis original source documentary materials of the most diverse kind. In 4 semesters it involves individual steps of gathering, continual developing and finding documentary material that can be combined and supplemented.

Discussion, research, development and analysis of source material.

Course contents

A course linking students to research tasks in partial directingn dramaturgy, acting and related issues.

In the course the students are devoted to research whose area defines the project „Research in set-design in the media era“ and „Stage and Drama“, with particular consideration of drama arts in relationship to stage-design „in life“, with the development of theatre in the era of general staging.

Also, for example, a study of the form of modern acting in relation to the development of modern directing provoking the situation in fundamental and theory issues regarding the changes in the establishment of those phenomena in the structure of theatre and film works; generally the relationship of change in artistic expression and period climate including changes in audience requirements of the image and development of media; changes in theatre education and its influence on the position of acting and directing.

Curriculum:

  1. Gathering representative image and sound material coming from a study of screenings and listenings (including from NFA, ČR and ČT).
  2. Completing selected bibliography.
  3. Acquiring additional material including personal memories, written statements in inteviews, contributions from meetings with actors, the director and other artists of the corresponding generation and graduates from theatre schools, etc.
  4. Completing topicalized comments for the gathered image and sound material, using remaining documentation and recordings together with selected examples on CD ROM.

Recommended or required reading

Continual acquisition and development of written, image and sound documentation. This is comprised of artistic sound and image recordings along with period industry critiques and studies and the reminisces of contemporaries including interviews and surveys.

Assessment methods and criteria

Term paper with research, analysis or reflection on a specific problem.
