Learning outcomes of the course unit

Understanding the meaning of costuming in theatre production. The starting point in theatre costuming treatment - a drama, analysis of drama situations and development of conceptual thinking. Strengthening abilities in artistic communication and basic knowledge of materials for costuming design. Development of the ability to form one's treatment of indiividual exercises. Basics of proper presentations.

Mode of study

Individual consultations on assignments, texts, sources of inspiration, prepared sketches and drawings. Consultation and anlysis of dramatic situations. Costuming, object proposals and their implementation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Completion of Bachelor's level study at a university with a corresponding major area of study (DAMU-stage design, UMPRUM-clothing, textile, AVU, Textile University - Liberec etc.). Ability in artistic communication, drama arts expression and conceptual thinking. Knowledge (of form, design) of historical clothing and materials for creating costumes. Ability to work with a dramatic text, its formulation, identifying its importance and meaning. Master's project that is acceptable for the study.

Course contents

The programmes and instruction at the Masters' level are individual. The curriculum is created for the Masters' project and taking into account the dramaturgical plan for the DISK theatre.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded based on:

Independent work in the studio and a minimum of 80% attendance at consultations (classes) throughout the semester.

Continuity in work,

bearing in historical clothing,

drama and conceptual thinking skills, comprehensive treatment of the costuming setting,

costuming proposal implementation skills,

artistic quality of the proposal and its presentation in the summary exam,

imagination and creativity skills.
