Learning outcomes of the course unit

The goal is a mastery of costuming in all forms of theatre (drama, opera, ballet), film and television. A graduate in set-design/costuming and mask is able to independently create costuming (costume design) for all forms of theatre, film and TV and to work in non-theatrical production.

Mode of study

Individual consulations on the assignments. Text analysis. Searching for sources of inspiration. Concept and artistic expression. Investigating the material potential of execution and its management. Emphasis on skill in communication and continuity.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Completion of Bachelor's level study at a university with a corresponding major area of study (DAMU-stage design, UMPRUM-clothing, textile, AVU, Textile University - Liberec etc.). Abilities in artistic communication, drama arts expression and conceptual thinking. Knowledge basic forms of historical clothing and materials for creating costumes. Ability to work with a dramatic text, its formulation, identifying its importance and meaning. Master's project that is acceptable for the study.

Course contents

The Master's level programme and instruction are individual. Curriculum is based on the Master's project and according to the dramaturgical pland of the DISK theatre.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded based on:

Independent work in the studio and a minimum of 80% attendance at consultations (classes) throughout the semester.

conceptual and dramatic thinking skills,

level of artistic expression and a presentation of an artistic proposal, objects and their implementation.

Verbal assessments during the course of the semester, the summary is assessed by a professional commission.
