Learning outcomes of the course unit

  1. Review of the main topics listed for the master's exam.
  2. Guiding students in demonstrating a linking of theory knowledge with experience in practice.
  3. Art of selection / distinguishing fundamental from auxilliary information.
  4. Developing the ability to manage a discussion on an assigned topic and form and defend one's viewpoint.

Mode of study

Readings, discussion, recorded samples analysis.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Ability to develop and present an assigned topic.

Ability to link theory knowledge and experience.

Ability take up and defend a one's opinion on a selected topic.

Basic overview of theatre history and theory.

Course contents

  1. Selection of the master's thesis toic including advisor selection.
  2. Completion of selected topics from the master's exam and their presentation in class.
  3. Discussion of developed topics and form of their presentation.
  4. Video screenings and attendance at theatre performances for selected topics.
  5. Discussion on staging examples, respectively viewing performances; comparing the viewed with the topics for the master's exam.
  6. Comparison of theory and experience, verifying that students are able to apply acquired knowledge.

This course is intended for master's exam preparation. A fundamental emphasis is placed on the ability to present history and theory knowledge in a context of one's theatre thought and practice.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded based on class participation, completion of the semester paper and its presentation.

Requirements for successful completion of the course are class participation, completion and presentation of the semester paper.
