Learning outcomes of the course unit
Development of student abilities to independently execute a exhaustive analysis of a drama writing and creatively uncover and find some potential for its stage production. Subsequently to work with the writing as material or as inspiration for a performance, set one's own interpretation or ideas.
Mode of study
Group readings, text analysis, moderated discussion, discussions, review of new texts.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
- Ability to apply theatrical terminology in practice.
- Ability to analyse the relevant text, including sub-text.
- Ability to understand the context (obvious need for self-education).
- Ability to develop your own interpretation.
- Imagination.
Course contents
Working with a text as a condition for its use in the whole of a stage work.
- Formulation of the direct first impression from reading.
- Development of the appropriate literature. (Context of the period of the work, a work in a life context and orginal creations).
- Time-space.
- Figures.
- Central and secondary motives.
- Theme (themes).
- Language (+ possible translation).
- Study of corresponding significant stage developments of the text.
- Idea of one's stage treatment.
