Learning outcomes of the course unit

  1. Appreciating the puppet and the production possibilities of its use.
  2. Provocation of psychophysical energy to the projection of the actor's emotions in the puppet's role.
  3. Testing the basic principles of animation.
  4. Defining the mutual relations between actor and puppet.

Mode of study

Etudes, stage situation treatment exercises, discussion and analysis of executed work.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

  1. Imagination.
  2. Playfullness.
  3. Creativity.
  4. Ability to inspire and execute.
  5. Basic familiarity in the trade.

Course contents

Curriculum

  1. Understanding the specific qualities and possibilities of various types of puppet.
  2. Creative dependence on the set designer.
  3. The puppet in space.
  4. The puppet in drama.

Syllabus

The process of teaching animation is dependent on the kinetic possibilities of the hand through material, the object, to the puppet. The student perceives the basic qualities of the material, its form and specific qualities. Special emphasis is placed on recognising the actor/puppet relations, on the possibility of including the actor in a non-illusive production.
