Learning outcomes of the course unit
The subject's placement in the first semester means that the student gains a basic grounding in all the approaches and styles represented by the various teaching teams led by the individual „gurus“ (J. Krofta, J. Schmid, M. Krobot, M. Schartová, J. Borna a M. Bečka) and also has the opportunity to meet the important international artists working in this field who it's been possible to include in this program (H. Jurkowski, M. Waszkiel, J. Radomski, M. Amsler, L. Vajdička, M. Čorba, A. Pachinger, G. Balogh, W. Knodgen, E. Bass, B. Erulli, M. Niculescu, O. Bernstengel, M. Wiig, B. Varl, P. Francis etc.). The kaleidoscopic variety available should also show students that there are many different and as yet undiscovered paths and approaches, and that all that is needed is to be able to analyse, understand and use them for their own inspiration, and ultimately for their personal developement.
Mode of study
Course is in the form of meeting with important artists and researchers such as poets, musicians, painters, physicists, philosphers, sociologists or political scientists. The external instructors present their work (among others; using video and audio recordings) and if possible supplementing the presentations with exercises.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Regular visits to contemporary exhibitions (with an emphasis on conceptual art), theatre performances (with an emphasis on independent theatre studios and groups) an concerts of classical and alternative music.
Course contents
The regular weekly three-hour rotation of blocks of small workshops run by teaching teams is alternated, according to guests' time demands, with the workshops of foreign guests, which usually run through the weekends in order to ensure continuity and concentration. This always first involves familiarisation with the creator or team, viewing examples of the most important work, its analysis and detailed dramatic sketches which provide students with creative experience of the various theatrical approaches.
Recommended or required reading
Publications and magazine studies on creative people working in the department's teams (J. Krofta, I. Rajmont, J. Schmid, M. Krobot, J. Borna, K. Makonj, M. Bečka, P. Kalfus, P. Matásek, A. Tománek, Vr. Šrámek, M. Klíma, J. Etlík etc.).
As far as foreign creative persons are concerned, this always depends on the specific person who will deliver the lecture.
Assessment methods and criteria
Class participation is required and at the end of the Summer semester, a written review of a meeting with one of the guests and their workshop.
Note
Elective course for a limited number of students from other studies.
