Learning outcomes of the course unit
Course aims:
- Introduce students with the basic possibilities in composition and spatial relationships (architecture, sculpting, the surroundings, topology).
- Provide students the basic information regarding the development of theatre spaces, stage design and their individual media (types of theatre spaces, stage design instruments.
- Provide students direct experience in working with a drama text with consideratoin of the space and stage design (the path from the text to the drama space).
The result is to understand the place and sense of stage design in the proces of creating a theatre staging or drama event. The student should be able to use creative elements for staging as a part of their theatre language in practice.

Contact instruction, Production, Discussion, Analysis of recorded theatre productions, readings, text analysis.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
- Completion of the introductory theatre project.
- Knowledge and experience in working with materials.
- Abilities in the perception of substance quality and space arrangement.
Course contents
Introduction to set design. This course covers mainly gathering knowledge and experience in practice with material and masses. This expands skills in the perception of theatre and visual arts mass quality and spatial arrangement.
- Development of stage spaces and stage design instruments. Form and orientation of the stage and audience.
- Stage design dramaturgy: practical experience analysing a text from a set design viewpoint.
- Creative directorial concept - constructing the creative directorial concept with a particular text and its objective recording using creative-graphic instruments.

Credit is awarded for class and exercise participation and the independent paper.
