Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course content is focused on the development of student skills in planning, executing, and assessing a lesson using approaches and drama internal structure methods (school, narrative drama). Students, through their own experience, are acquainted with these types of drama work, purposefully joining the emotional and rational and checking the effect of the method used, including the joining of the instructor in to role play. Becoming aware of and being able to define the particulars of this practice, its character and basic tools.

The aim of the course is to provide the students, also, with theory foundation for this manner of education. This experience is used by the students later in the independent planning, execution and review of a structured drama lesson with various age groups.

Mode of study

Execution of a drama with the students in acting roles. Review of experience. Analysis, Discussion, Lecture, Assessment and mentoring of student performance.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The student should be able to actively enter into role playing, cooperate within its framework with the other players, take part in investigating selected theme and think about their experiences and acquired skills.

Course contents

Curriculum:

Active participation in drama games.
Situation and context.
Drama techniques/conventions.
Role playing.
Problems situations.

Syllabus:

Active participation in drama plays: execution and thinking about a number of larger plays/drama under the guidance of the instructor.
Situation and context: chain reaction situations (plot and fabrication); significance of the narrative; working with time and space; investigating a theme from various aspects.
Drama techniques/conventions: separating events (discreteness, distance and reflection); gradual play difficulty; some technique classification manners (Jonothan Neelands, Josef Valenta).
Role play: various levels of role play; roles for ensembles/actors; roles for instructors.
Problem situations: problems, conflicts, problems situations; open and closed situations; continued and discontinued situations; manners of setting; placement in a drama structure.
