Course contents
Lectures in the third and fourth semesters emphasize the deviation of contemporary theatrology from the fundamental features of European thought, primarily from the concept of identity, foundation and causality, which are more and more in todays arts research substituted by other concepts: analogy, relationship, dependences, oppositions, dialogism, contextuality, ambivalence and difference.
In theatre, these are the concepts: performance events, concept of post-dramatic theatre, ontological elements of theatre acts in which the compactnost of the theatre form is replaced by an emphasis on its process considerations, etc.
Third semester:
- Beginnings of theatre anthropology in relation to impulses of the so called Second Theatre Reform (Grotowski, Barba, Schumann, Brook).
- The influence of visual art happenings on theatre, performance events in visual arts (Kaprow, Schechner, Fischer-Lichte).
- The crisis of the concept of staging in theatre theory (Pavis).
- Interpretive and non-interpretive theatre at the beginning of the 21st century. Comparison of traditional performance approaches to a stage piece with new staging methods inspired by deconstruction and the so called „post-modern“ (Císař, Pavis, Lehmann, Derrida).
