Learning outcomes of the course unit

  1. To introduce students to stimuli of the so called Second Theatre Reform in the Czech environment and account for specific phenomena of study theatre and the contribution of that movement to the development of theatre language in a context of all theatre arts and specific modfications in puppet theatre.
  2. To introdue students to the rediscovered mythic and ritual bases of theatre actions.
  3. To point out to students the significant changes in theatre metaphors in the 1960s (rediscovery of metaphoric processes in the inter-war avant garde) and gradual influence of theatre language on mass media.
  4. The aim is then, to expand student skills in bearings in theatre theory issues in relation to the development of contemporary theatre, ability to apply theory procedures in small form theatre, and the ability to understand the specificity of puppet theatre.

Mode of study

Concept interpretation, theory text reading and analyses, recording analyses.

  1. The second theatre reform.
  2. Particular phenomena of studio theatre in the Czech environment.
  3. Contribution of those movements to the development of theatre language in the context of overall theatre arts and specific modifications in puppet theatre.
  4. Rediscovery of the mythical and ritual foundations of theatre acts.
  5. Changes in theatre metaphor (rediscovery of metaphoric procedures of the inter-war avant garde) and gradual influence of theatre language by mass media.

Assessment methods and criteria

Grading and credit is awarded based on a minimum of 80% participation in lectures, which is a condition for sitting the exam. Grading is completed at the end of the lecture cycle by an oral or as the case may be, written exam.
