Learning outcomes of the course unit

  1. Introduction to issues of contemporary theatre theory.
  2. Acquaintance with elementary theatre research concepts, used in Czech theatre research. Definition of those concepts in relation to general arts theory, aesthetics and theory in other types of art. In particular, it is important to become acquainted in this lecture series with the unique issues of puppet theatre theory.
  3. Expansion of issues of theatre theory in contexts regarding the developmental trends of contemporary theatre.
  4. To cultivate an ability to gain bearing at a high level in theatre theory issues. Meaningfully account for the development of contemporary theatre.

Mode of study

Concept interpretation, theory text reading and analyses, recording analyses.

No requirements.

Course contents

  1. Definition and presentation of theatre-research concepts in relations to general arts theory, aesthetics and theories in other arts.
  2. Unique theory issues of puppet theatre.
  3. Development trends of contemporary theatre.
  4. Contemporary theatre and issues in the review of theory.

Assessment methods and criteria

Grading and credit is awarded based on a minimum of 80% participation in lectures, which is a condition for sitting the exam. Grading is completed at the end of the lecture cycle by an oral or as the case may be, written exam.
