Learning outcomes of the course unit

Ability to interpret a drama writing from a historical development perspective; knowledge of basic terminology.

Mode of study

Classes, lectures. Drama readings.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Ability to read a drama writing from a perspective of the inherent elements: behaviour and events, time and space, drama figures.

Course contents

Changes in drama from the perspective of development phases: antique tragedy, Spanish Baroque drama, classical tragedy, romantic drama (Schiller, Hugo, Musset); Chechov's drama reform, Ibsen's psychological drama, expressionistic drama, actualizing myth in French drama (Anouilh, Cocteau, Sartre), existential drama, pschologism, Tennesee Williams, Absurd drama? (Pirondello, Strindberg, O'Neille, Durrenmatt, etc.)

Explication of the concept of drama form of each epoch or specific features of original dramaturgy; analysis of drama writings - some aspects (stavba, language, characters?)

Paper based on instruction; an attempt at independent analysis of a selected writing.

This is an obligatory course for the second year of Bachelor's study at the Dept. of Screenwriting and Script Editing.
