Learning outcomes of the course unit

The analysis of the concept of a drama situation is the instruction aim, its structure and the basic principles of its construction.

Directing students, based on this analysis, will be able to comprehend the purpose of Mis-en-scene.

Course contents

Instruction is a combination of lectures and classes. Students will, among others, write a short paper on an assigned topic (drama etude or brief consideration), which will be assessed as a group.

Main topics:

Film subject matter - selection of material in relation to the imagined film form and required extent. Working with the literature basis and experience.

Characters - relationships of the characters as the basis of the drama structure

Basic genre layout

Environment, atmosphere, time period. Selection and choice of motives.

Rhythm and contrast as the basis of the future arrangement in the scene construction.

Original initiatives in conflict or in congruence with the predicted common needs.

Relations of the director and screenwriter in the course of preparation and implementation of the film: The director as writer.
