Learning outcomes of the course unit

An acquaintance with photography genres which are directly connected to documentary making - journalistic photography, documentary photography and portrait. Learning photography technology and achieving an advanced level.

The purpose is to attempt to find and recognize one's approach to developing an image, an original photographic style and type of one's own image sensitivity.

Mode of study

Exercises and illustrations, particulars of exercise assignments, analysis and discussion of photos brought in.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Knowledge of the fundamentals of photographic technology and working with a photograph device. Image results must be developed at a level of quality confirming participation in instruction and other activities related to class/workshop content. An open, free, creative approach.

Course contents

Series of photos on an assigned topic or arising from topics which the students are currently dealing with.

Summer semester:

Obligatory section:

Series of photos on an assigned topic or selected by the student

Students select or receive a given topic an create a collection of at least 6 mutually connected photos which are developed in the agreed manner to exhibit form.

The purpose is an expansion of independent consideration of photography and a creation of an integrated collection, according to student choice, spanning the genree of documentary photography, report, portrait, self-portrait, journal.

Elective section according to agreement:

1/ thorough knowledge of B/W analog photography technology - photographic material, photograph and film development procedure

2/ group visit to an exhibition

3/ meeting with documentary and journalism photography figures.

4/ working with images on social networks.

Assessment methods and criteria

Summer Semester - Students consult with the instructor about their work throughout, upon agreement it continues with an understanding of the photograhy media and improvement of skills begun in the Winter semester. Final grading in June

Analog and digital techinology or a combination of both maybe used.

In both semesters, at each consultation class there is a discussion on contemporary trends in photography, technology, exhibitions, etc.
