Learning outcomes of the course unit

To introduce students to the investigation process and potential in documentary film.

Mode of study

Discussions, moderated discussions, film analyses. Classes in the field with evaluation data from available sources in electronic databases.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Bearing in basic political issues, history. Interest in investigative topics.

Course contents

The aim of the course is to investigate and demonstrate the potential of the so called investigative method in documentary film. To clarify that this is not merely the domain for only journalism. As well we will cover, among others, so called engaged documentary film for the majority of which this method is necessary but also films covering historical events... to notice contexts of things - an those political. The instruction method is a continuous discussion.

Monitor of main dailies and weeklies (MFD, Pravo, LN, Respekt, Tyden, etc.)

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit is awarded based on attendance and participation in class and submission of the final semester paper.
