Learning outcomes of the course unit

Ability to create material for a documentary portrait of a person for archival use. A study of the art to portray the human face using film expressive media. Ability to recognize details in the human face for use in documentary film.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The requirement is the completion of the „Expressive Media in Documenatry Film“ course or „The Camera in Documentary Film.“

Course contents

„Man - Portrait - Chronicle“ is a B/W compositional exercise in the form of an archive chronicle in which the students examine their shooting procedures using a selected person in a particular surroundings. The students, in collaboration with the cameraman in a group course for 3rd year Camera dept. students and Documentary Dept. students, select a person, present it to and consult with the instructor about the exercise concept and in all-around cooperation shoot the image and sound recordings and complete the composition.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student is graded based on the submitted film work which resulted in the „Camera in Documentary Film“ exercise.
