Course contents

How to understand the ethical dimensions of a piece? If ethics represents an ideal set of principles of relationship and interpersonal negotiation, where does it end and where does its sphere of activity begin? Under what conditions does the ethical appeal restrict creation or offer more substantial perspectives and material?

Though simple games the participants experience diverse positions in participation constituting a „film scene.“ In the roles of a viewer, director and protagonist they will be able to view different various appeals to ethical perception.

They experience how the selection of a shot environment influences the protagonists and viewers.

In small groups, the fundamental situation / constellation in which filmmaking takes place is present. The goal is to open up space for ethics perception and the numberous issues arising from it.

The morning session will be devoted to „case studies“ of the module lecturer's films and first game. Two more games will take place in the afternoon session. The close of the module will be devoted to review and generalization of the understood principles in relation to the documentary film tradition.

A requirement for participation is active joining into the improvisation during the entire day and preparations of one ethically ambiguous situation which will be used for creating the first game (the situation may be realistic - from a film on which the student worked, or saw or hypothetical.).
