Course contents

The film about Milos Forman came about as a co-production of ARTE and Czech Television. ARTE's dramaturgy dept. approached Helena Třeštíková to be the director and she selected Jakub Heynu, film editor to be the co-director.

The task was to create a comprehensive portrait of Milos Forman: a film European audience would be able to understand. The final agreement was a 55 minute film for ARTE and 80 minute form for Czech Television.

At the time of the tasking of the film, Milos Forman was still alive, he knew about the film and was looking forward to it. However, for health reasons he declined to be filmed. He passed during the making of the film.

From the beginning it was clear the that it would only be archived material, both Czech and abroad.

Aside from the films MIlos Forman made, we decided to use documentaries about him made in the Czech Republic and around the world.

The module on the sample of a film, „a work in progress“ will be devoted to the issues of working with archives.

Technical problems:

Dramaturgical problems:

We will try to describe the course of action, schedules, time spent in editing.

The module will begin with a screening of the working version of the film and then we will attempt, in samples from the film to document various issues in making the film: dramaturgical, aesthetic and technical.
