Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course aim is to expand knowledge and practical skills which the students acquired in the introduction to the editing composition study and in fulfilling Winter semester practices and which will be need in the Summer semester of the first year for the implementation of one's Documentary Dept. required exercises.
Mode of study
Media recording example analysis, text analyses. Additional independent editing of audio-visual material with consultations.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Completion of „Introduction and Practice at the Editing Dept.“ Knowledge of "Anthology of Texts for Introduction, FAMU 2006.
Course contents
This course is a nominal introduction to editing. The aim of the course is for students to understand film as complex - an complete world and its items as the fruit of composition. For this, there will be in-class exercises as well as theory excursions. The course does not place practice performance above theory or vice versa. One must be aware that for an authentic montage occurs when contradictory connections are made.

11.3. Fluency of movement: Kuleshov effect vs jumpcut. Exercise: „Artificial Man“
25.3. Time composition and sound: Fugue vs song. Exercise: „Space Atmosphere with a camera and microphone“
1.4. Dismantling, photography, curve maturity. Exercise: „Film from photography: Velazquez and Serov“
8.4. Monumentalness and transience: Shostakovich and Xenakis? Exercise: „Three forms of one object“ and „New non-existing statement“
15.4. Depth of composition vs. Dismantlement. Exercise: „Two directings of the same thing“
29.4. Considerations in film: between metaphor and metonym. Huszárik: Elégia. Exercise: „Is it a parallel montage or Cross edit?“
Moveable date: completion of uncompleted items. Editing consultations: „Original Report“. Summary and adjuct views and beyond.
