Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students have the opportunity to systematically expand their knowledge and abilities in creating and using the film image in the service of film express for a dramatic work.

Mode of study

Presentation of instructor experience, creativity activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

A fundamental requirement is the ability to analyse a film work and film script particularly with a view to the image dramaturgy, awareness of team collaboration in the production of a film, basics of visualization procedures, practical experience and results in practice on the image element of a film.

Course contents

The course synthesizes to-date knowledge and experience in feature film and facilitates their orientation in the creation of a complete viewpoint of dramaturgy, visual, image, implementation and organizational issues of the cameraman in preparation, shooting and finalization of a feature film.

The film script characteristics, dramaturgical concept in relation to genre, structure, and implementation and overall film style are defined.

Cameraman talent characteristics with an emphasis on dramaturgical-visual activity is discussed and the cameraman as an author of the film image is defined.

The framework of the lectures is the preparations of a fictive film where the cameraman's activity is divided into drama-visual and organizational-technical parts. Important parts are procedures in exponometric, color, make-up and acting rehearsal shooting, use of techniques in creating the light-tone atmosphere, camera movement, etc.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students, based on the screenings, examples, analyses and discussions freely decide which film of the school screenings they will devote themselves to in the written analysis of cameraman's work in the preparations period and shooting itself. Also, they will assess to what extent, according to their opinion, the collaboration of the director, dramaturgist cameraman and artistic elements succeeded or fulfilled expectations, where they see deficiencies, what they appreciate and why. Submission of the written paper is a condition for receiving credit.
