Learning outcomes of the course unit

Systematic preparation for Camera Dept. students for cameraman functions in shooting a documentary film.

Mode of study

V průběhu semestru posluchač natáčí filmovou kamerou 35mm na černobílý negativní materiál. Vyvolaný negativ odevzdává do NFA a z DVCAM přepisu sestavuje vlastní verzi Letopisu ve střižně. Výsledný sestřih odevzdává ke klauzuře.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

A requirement is the completion of the basics of camera works in the 1st and 2nd years of Camera dept. study.

Course contents

This is a collection of course lectures, practical examples and active dialog completed with an exam.

Curriculum:

Analysis of prepared documentary students projects.

Preparations for shooting the cameraman exercise MAN - PORTRAIT - CHRONICLE

Evaluation of recorded material, sreenings of the day's work.

Evaluation, concurrent analyses and consultations of shot documentary projects.

HDV, HDTV, DIGITAL, CINEMA and documentary projects.

Working with light, contrast in relationship with distinction of SD and HD digital systems.

Issues of film languages and their structures in documentary film in relationship to recording methods used. Technical parameters limiting documentary work.

Shooting the study cameraman film MAN - PORTRAIT - CHRONICLE

Camera dept. students have the task to shoot a short silent image recording (122m color 16mm negative material) - a portrait of a person, elder person, a well-known Czech cameraman. Documentary dept. students arrange the supplementary sound recording - conversation on a cassette.

They edit their recordings together in the editing facility to electronic form (Avid, FinalCut). This will be part of the Year-end work inspection for the Camera dept. students.
