Learning outcomes of the course unit

On the basis of one's own appropriate and simple narrative (screenplay), the student is to propose and complete two completely different image styles which together form the feeling of two dramatic levels of one film creation and through these distinct images a unified language of communication arises.

Mode of study

Explication and assigned exercises, shooting and finishing.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

A general cultural education and sensitivity to the world of color around us. A complete passion for the cameraman profession in relation to the concept of a film work as a whole.

Course contents

Exercise content:

Student shoots a simple story including a short dream sequence - according to their idea - without presence of the director.

The student independently selects and adapts the story to the technical script (dream sequence, describing in the script what film genre the dream sequence is (horror, murder-mystery, etc.).

The opening sequence of the real story is, for example, in static shots, the entire dream quite dynamic, at the end returning to reality. It is possible to use other treatments of diverse dreams and realities.

Along with continuity and composition of the shot, emphasis is placed on the creative treatment of the image with emphasis on the color concept.

Consultation:

Obligatory consultations for idea, script and color and image style treatment and technical conditions approval.

Part of the execution is submission of the relevant techical script by the 15th of April of the 3rd year of study academic year.

Execution: The film is part of the bachelor's collection where it is screened in its final form.

Material: 16mm color negative KODAK, 240m, negative scan and subsequent digital copy in DCP format.

Assessment methods and criteria

Analysis of prepared work and final implementation of a recorded film. Management of daily work or rough edit in the digital editing room.

Attendance in the Color Cinematography course - Min. 70%
