Course contents
The first part module content is an outline of the historical encounters of dance and film from the beginning of cinematography to the present with the aim to explain the features and specifics of the genre „dance for camera“. Lectures will touch upon theory topics related to choreographic composition an image, editing dynamics, assembly of image syntax.
The second part will be devoted to the dance film genre with an emphasis on the differring priniciples of the collaboration of a choreographer and a filmmaker (rise of choreography). This part will also present works and theory information from one of the pioneers of dance film, David HInton.
Jana Návratová is the artistic director of the Dance Film Festival, which alone systematically present the genre of dance film in the Czech Republic and encourages domestic works in this area.
The lecture is an introduction to the practical Dance for Camera, in which students try to shoot a short dance film in collaboration with professional dancers under the guidance of the British director, David Hinton.
Part of the module will be film examples of approx. 30 min. of dance for camera film.
At the end of the lecture there will be a presentation of choreographers who will be able to collaborate for the Dance for Camera module with David Hinton, which will take place in the second half of April.
