Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course focuses on understanding and practising digital imaging not only as an alternative to classical photography but also as a modern creative tool for advancing creative photography. First-year students will learn the basic principles of photographic picture raster scanning and transforming it into a data file through a computer. Students will get to know the functions of a computer and its peripheries as alternatives to the processing of photography in a dark room. Simultaneously, the first year will serve to balance the computer knowledge of individual students. The course will also explain and determine the organisation of work on a school computer.

Mode of study

Assessment: A final exam requiring: elaborated exercises, knowledge of the workflow for digital images, class participation.

Course Description:

In the theoretical part of the lessons the students will get acquainted with basic definitions that are concerned in digital images. The digital color, description of the colors and the ways of the data compression of the image files and essential image file formats will be explained. The principle of basic computer peripherals that are used for creating and finishing of the digital image will be discussed.

The practical part will include editing of the photography by the AdobePhotoshop. The students will practice it at special exercises (practical lessons) and on their own photos as well (the outputs of Mr. M.Stecker?s lessons).

Attention will be devoted to essential knowledge of color management that will be extended to AdobePhotoshop and will be used by the printing too.
