Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will, first of all, be acquainted with the basics of this photography discipline and from a historical and linked to contemporary technology development perspective. This semester focuses on the daring technique mastery of these issues. The students will be acquainted with various types. We will also cover the development of architecture in individual construction layers and examples of those constructions in the Czech Republic. This instruction will serve as theory instruction for exercises in the Summer semester.

Mode of study

Each class will have three parts: a short lecture, discussion on the lecture topic or a topic related to architecture and photography and consultations on photography assignments. Aside from this instruction, there will also be an assembly linked to the photography of modern architecture in Hradec Kralove and one module will be assigned to each student of the course as an elective requirement (upon acquisition of the appropriate credits). The module topics will be assigned during the semester.

Course contents

At the introductory course in Beroun the students will independently implement exercise shotsof an interior stairway in the Beroun school using Sinar cameras. Exterior shots will be in Prague at the Holy Heart of Lord Church, at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square.

Assessed is: For the exterior, an appropriate selection of lighting for the characteristic of the building, appropriate shutter selection and excellent execution of the shot including precise balance of perpendicular lines. In the interior the quality of the developed negative which allows good management of light and shadow in an interior is assessed.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students will be graded only if they attend 80% of classes and participate in group instructional excursions.
