Learning outcomes of the course unit

The aim of this course is to sythetically bring together all knowledge about photographing a surface of an object; its structure, glass, metal and porcelain for a final work of that object for the catalog. The requirement is a printed catalog with and adequate binding and graphic design.

Mode of study

On the practical examples students are taught how to realize assignments taking pictures of different surfaces with respect to the appropriate sharpness and lighting conditions with possibilities of Scheimpflug principle. Students also learn how to take pictures of geometric objects in the space with focus on differences in lighting ratios of main and additional light source, light measuring of the scene and taking care of the ranges of objects.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Completion 307ETFOT1 Photography Techniques 1 a 307ETFOT2 Photography Techniques 2

Course contents

Part of the preparation for completing the catalog is also several lectures on printing technology and its to date development. The main attention will be on printing on a surface - offset, which today is predominantly part of the printing reproduction. We will cover issues of pre-print preparations, transfer of RGB - CMYK photography appropriate for the printing register and consideration of the dimensions of the print. Advantages of amplitude or frequency modulated registers, stochastic registers. The conclusion of this theory preparation is a visit to a printer. The appropriately selected binding will be part of the module.

The production of a catalog will be the result of these theory preparations: a minimum of 10 photos, selection of analog or digital will be left to the student which will be a part of the defense of the work.
