Learning outcomes of the course unit

Within the seminar, students will continuously consult their theoretical master's theses and systematically prepare for the final exam in history and theory of photography.

the seminar is assigned to students in the final year of the master programme

Course contents

Through discussions with the lecturer and colleagues, each student will have to define his/her thesis topic, choose a supervisor, and write a project of the master thesis on a designated form.

During the semester each student will give an oral presentation (c. 15 minutes - an answer to a final exam question of his/her choice) and submit a written assignment.

The main output of the seminar is a draft of the state-of-the-art chapter of the thesis.

Final exam questions and recommended literature will be discussed continuously.

Assessment methods and criteria

attendance: the seminar takes place typically once every two weeks, students must attend all meetings

students must submit all assignments: paper (3 pages, summary and interpretation of a given text), presentation (selected final exam question), thesis project (by 30th November), draft of a state-of-the-art chapter (minimum of 10 pages)
