This course is intended for advance work with digital images so students will be able to successfully communicate and collaborate iwth graphics pre-press studios or printers.

Zápočet (ZS): udělený na základě vypracovaného cvičení a účasti minim. 75%

Zkouška (LS): zahrnuje následující tematické okruhy:

1.Správa barev (CIE 1931, CIE Lab, princip barvové správy, ICC profily, mapování gamutů)

2.Problematika kalibrace a profilace monitoru, tiskárny a skeneru

3.Aplikace barvové správy v AdobePhotoshopu

4.Charakteristika formátů PostScript a PDF, export do formátu PDF.

5.Charakteristika základních operací tiskového workflow.

Course contents

Course description:

In connection with the 1st year - course „Working with a Computer and Digital Imaging“ - students will perform advanced adjustments to photos in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom (RAW files). Particular attention will be devoted to issues of color management. Students, alone, perform monitor, printer and scanner profiling and calibration. Acquired ICC profiles are applied in Adobe Photoshop and used in checking the preview and proof-sheet. With a view to the eventual collaboration with graphic pre-press studios or printers, students are introduced to the main essentials of PDF file creation with the related concepts.

Assessment methods and criteria

Grading:

Credit: (Winter semester): awarded based on the processed exercise and participation minumum of 75%

Exam (Summer semester): containing the following topics:

  1. Color management (CIE 1931, CIE Lab, color control principles, ICC profiles, Gamut mapping)
  2. Monitor, printer and scanner profiling and calibration issues
  3. Application of color controllers in Adobe Photoshop
  4. PostScript, PDF format characteristics, export to PDF format.
  5. Fundamentals of printing workflow operations.
