Learning outcomes of the course unit

Characters in Animated film

To find ways of classifying human characters. Define procedures of how to work on the construction of a particular character in theatre and film. Particulars of working in animated film.

Mode of study

Intensive instruction - in a block. Takes place in the Animated Film Studio at FAMU, „Na tržišti“, in the trials room 116, palace AVALON in the AMU dean's building.

In the school year 2017/2018 instruction will take place in the Winter semester.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

This course is intended primarily for animated film direction students but also for other directing studies at FAMU, DAMU and HAMU.

Course contents

Through etude studies awareness of acting movement expression is approached and expanded. Creating gestures in time and space. Character studies, their main indicators, body structure, gestures and mimicry. Classification of figures and gestures according to the characters and emotions and their use in playing a situation.

To find a manner of acting expression of a character in live actors, puppet and other objects.

Classification of human types and archetypes in various theatrical styles.

Comparing approaches in playing characters in relation to the style of an animated film and expression tools used.

Assessment methods and criteria

Participation in the in the intensive workshop at the given date and time. Credit will be awarded for submitting the film exercise.

Note

Every human being is capable of expressive movement, because movment is one of the first manifestations of life. An actor can become anyone desired. Understanding the function of a gesture and the mutual relations of individual parts of the human body is a process founded on the performance of body exercise systems. The pantomime principle of acting (embodiement) is the principle basis for any acting expression.

Group maximum is 15.
