Learning outcomes of the course unit

The primary purpose of this project is to display the camera skills of the student.

Cinematography students will learn to load and operate 35mm camera and to employ a standard lens package in natural light conditions.

Cinematography students are expected to work both as Director of Photography and Camera Operator. They should also work as Camera Assistants on the projects of their classmates.

Working from a transfer to HD technology, students will develop their skills in digital postproduction and color grading to enhance the visual atmosphere.

Successful completion of the Fall term projects, significant progress in the skills.

Course contents

Based on an original script developed in a workshop, students of cinematography will create a simple 3 to 5 minute 35mm film shot on a predetermined exterior location that will be selected by their workshop mentors. (decision taken till the end of December)

In this film the students should create either narrative or on-narrative structure. In either case, the film has to have a consistent atmosphere of a dream.

Cinematography students may either direct this project, or select a directing student from Academy Preparation Program as a collaborator on this film.
