Learning outcomes of the course unit
Developing storytelling skills. It does not matter if we write or draw, speak or take photographs – to tell a story successfully we simply have to follow certain rules.
Mode of study
Practical seminar. Assignment specification will be the content of our 1st meeting. Students will continue to work individually. There are two more meetings: Work in progress session and the final session when the results are handed in.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
A camera would be great. A cell phone is sufficient but makes the task more difficult.
Course contents
Students try to capture a little narration without the option of using either motion picture or sound. The final sequences of photographs will serve as an example of storytelling. A variety of shots (long shot, medium shot, close up), imitating motion (panning, tilting), and changing the depth of field in combination with changing focus are the means to help you in capturing the narration. Also, do not forget about different focal lengths of your lenses; zoom-in zoom-out brings a remarkable action feeling.
You either invent a little story or try to make one out of the your daily experience. The character will be Prague, a city quarter, a colleague of yours or a human being in general.
What is the output?
A slide show of the selected images up to number of 16 in total.
