Course contents
Exercise: Location and Memory
Lecturer: Ondřej Vavrečka
Medium: video/film 4 - 9 min.
Student assisted case history of a location. Students find and select a location which is important from a personal or local history or so called greater history perspective. Then an „investigation“ is performed on that location which is made up of a collection of memorial material (secondary „documentary“ or direct witness) and the investigation of the significant weavings among the elements. During this process there is a change in the students relationship to the selected location or vice-versa. This change in stance is imbued in the resulting work. We visit - if possible - one or more of these locations in order to collectively see if its genius is present or changed. In further phases students select a corresponding expressive medium to present the memory of the location putting together information and emotions and completes the form. This may be a documentation of live incursions into the selected location, a fictitious re-interpretation of the location, "catalog of moving things at the location, etc... In the exercise, emphasis is place of the ability to independently interpret reality, animate it with personal investment, care and passion and present that to others.
Basics of working with RaspberryPi
Lecturer: Kryštof Pešek
RaspberryPi is an open universal microcomputer. In a short two-day introduction, the students are introduced to the potential and limits which this platform offers in audio-visual work.
Part of the course will be a basic introduction to the functions of the equipment through the Raspbian operating system (Linux distribution). The potential use for interactive installations, universal video-players, realtime GLSL renderers, web servers, a/v streaming servers and for example: FM radio stations will be presented.
The course is intended for beginners, previous experience with the platform is not required.

=== Data structure of Human thought ===
Lecturers: Jiří Rouš, Kryštof Pešek
Data is everywhere. Fundamentally formless. Therefore, perhaps this may be a metaphor for visual, sound and all other possible structures, and vice-versa.
Diverse manners of medialization and extracting data allow us, pragmatically, quick intuitive readings of the internal relationships and tendencies found in data structures, which in the original form are not noticed.
In a context of the info-sphere, it is possible that with everything we encounter and face daily we can understand as a transformation of data into a perceptible human. The writing and digit characters here are without the use of data visualization just a barely understandable chain of bytes. Whether we wish to or not, data is a conglomeration of our everyday lives. Therefore, it is possible that it may be advantageous to theoretically and maybe practically to provide a apparatus for its analysis, deconstruction and interpretation.
None of the possible tools for working with data is preferred nor discounted by the lecturers. Preferences and student participation are priorities.

Assessment methods and criteria
100% attendance in all modules, independently implemented projects according to assignment by the instructor.
Note
The creation of this course is a reaction to long-term experience with student limits in or significant disproportional knowledge of the basic use and context of audio-visual technology. It is intended primarily for 1st year students in Audio-visual studies. Other students are welcomed if space allows.
Instruction is focused on an understanding of the relationships of and entry-level skills in working with HW and SW in developing image and sound. There are a number of examples for this topic on the internet. For instruction we have selected the most appropriate considering the needs of our students.
