Course contents

This is a lecture series on topics which consider film - film problematizes or banalizes it; film may be connected to is as an analogy or are in opposition to it. Film enables its existence or gradually kills it. These topics will be: a description, Enlightenment, triplicate, nine images of the Vysebrodsky Series, distance, desire, icon, film image, black and silent, topology, ambiguity, etc.

Regarding methodology; in tracing individual topice there will not be a overarching systematizing framework - this is not about the history of a study or topical monography. This covers more of an understanding of individual phenomenon which pacifies our understanding. This is so these phenomena do not remain obvious, so that based on the known, a space is opened up to the unknown. This enlivening study gives primacy to the unique. An inseparable part of the lectures will be film screenings (or fragments), literature examples, music or graphic arts.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students will be evaluated based on the presented paper and participation in discussion.

There is an requirement to complete a paper which expands or deals with one of the topics from the previous lectures. This is about how the students understands the covered topics; their own perspective. The paper is to contain an image, sound or image-sound example (archival or one's own created for this), which illustrates or supplements the student's concept of the topic. The student is to demonstrate that they can practically „apply“ their thoughts. The paper presentation is to be 15-20 minutes and will be followed by discussion. The student must present their paper during the lecture series, and not at the final class.

Note

At lectures it is possible to consult and collectively discuss one's piece.
