Learning outcomes of the course unit
In this workshop you will learn to work with basic tools and Unity’s UI environment. The goal is to explain advantage of the Unity Engine and how to build a “gaming” artwork. Resulting skills will offer simple 3D animation tool with fast render solution both for rendering videos in custom screen resolutions (also 360°), and for exporting own gaming software.
Mode of study
Students can use their own prepared materials as: 3D models, animations, images, audio, photos, videos and other. Lecturer will consult and provide example assets. We will oversee example projects and try to create our own as well. Cooperation between students is possible. There will be one or more local computers to work with. To get the credits it is obligatory to attend all three classes.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Course does not require programming skills, but it is welcomed. Open to all students. Experience with 3D modeling software like Blender is welcomed. Students are expected to bring their own laptop with pre-installed last official release of Unity. https://unity3d.com/get-unity/download
(write to Jakub Krejčí - dokonalychas@gmail.com for help/questions).
Course contents
The Unity Game Engine can be used to create both three-dimensional and two-dimensional games as well as simulations for its many platforms. It can be used for creating interactive gaming software, artistic creating, cinematic animation, virtual reality, mobile applications, performance, installation. https://unity3d.com/what-is-a-game-engine
In first class will introduce basics, animation, sequencing, virtual cameras animations and Post processing effects workflow.
Second class will handle real-time performance approach. We will animate game objects, attributes, animations, effects based on incoming audio signal and control data. (We will think about its output to screen(s) or projector(s) in real usage.)
Third class will focus on movement in 3D space in first person view or with Virtual Reality headset. It is needed to think about project data resources - Assets which can be obtained with: 3D modeling, Photogrammetry 3D scanning, 360 videos, audio recordings, image textures, videos, for creating personalized 3D world where you can apply interaction.
Workshhop will continue to summer semester, each month, extending Unity knowledge to finish project.
