Learning outcomes of the course unit

To introduce the history and basic theory of exhibiting graphic arts, including photography, video and other forms of the moving image.

To discuss current exhibition treatments visited during excursions.

To point out possible technical procedures used in exhibiting.

To prepare students in working with individual elements of an exhibit presentation.

Mode of study

Visits to priorly determined exhibitions accompanied by the instructor and exhibition curator

An exhibition as a means of independent expression.

Minimalism and its influence on the understanding of exhibition design.

Conceptual art and manners of exhibition

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral presentation:

Part of the grade is a short oral presentation (10 min.), the topic for the final paper is chosen by the student. The presentation will be given to the rest of the class in the final two weeks of the Summer semester and must include a visual part (ex: PowerPoint presentation)

Exhibition list:

Part of the course is a list of exhibitions for recording a short list and review of those exhibitions and projects visited (5 to 10 sentences) which is to be submitted by 23. May.

Written task - final essay

The final essay must be related to a topic or issue discussed at exhibition visits. It is essential that the text demonstrate the ability to contextualize artistic work, the exhibition and curator's concept which the student was familiarized with during the semester. The essay must have at least 5500 characters - max. 9000 characters, bibliography and references.

Student may consult about their topic and basis for the first version of the text before submission for grading. The close for the topic selection will be at the endo of April.
