Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course aim is to acquaint students with selected historical works on the border of the fine arts, video art and experimental fiilm, that is works of so called the art of the moving image, which the audience often encounters in a gallery. Emphasis will be placed on screening works in their entirety, a brief contextualization and subsequent discussion. In the Summer semester will be a number of examples to link the relationship of film and narrative, that is, issues of the relationship of contemporary artistic media.

Week 1

Films of Andy Warhol. Ontology of film and paradoxes of film image recording

Week 2

Films of John Smith + Filmmaker’s Co-op London

John Smith is one of the most important representatives of British experimental film. Inspired by conceptual film and minimalism, his films are anchored in everyday life playing with documentary and narrative film language. Plus a contextualiztion of his pieces.
