Learning outcomes of the course unit

Thanks to the opportunity for direct contact with professionals from Los Angeles, New York and London, students learn important information about the Anglo-American media industry. Carefully selected guests/professionals from the field of film, television, gaming industry, festivals and film awards,.... Lectures serve as contrast to European film production structure which is the standard taught at FAMU, so students acquire a needed overview of not only system differences but also, primarily, creative approaches in individual disciplines.

Mode of study

Lectures, video-conferences with guests, discussion.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Lectures in the English language - good knowledge of English.

Course contents

Series of lectures acquainting students with the current American film industry focused on Los Angeles and New York. Classes will be in the form of a „masterclass“. Detailed description of the work of independent produceers, film agents, directors, American film Oscar winner PR, game developers, film studios and film companies will be given....

A guest is invited to each lecture who desires to share experiences and novelties in their field. Meetings are on-line in real time through video-conferencing.

Each student prepares for the next guest, a week in advance of each lecture a minimum of at least 5 questions. Questions are sent on a shared document. Those questions will be also shared with the lecturer in order to allow for preparation. Considering that the guest met at the lectures are very busy, it is necessary that each student presents questions within the given deadline. Attendance is mandatory.
