Cinema Dance 2 / Covid version
The concept of the original Cinemadance Modul is to challenge students with a creative task – a short story - which needs to be created within restricted time and in conditions and resources “now and here.” In the process of development of their story, students are given additional obstacles and challenges, which force them to think creatively beyond their initial concept.
The learning outcome of the module is that there is no such thing as the single creative idea to which conditions must be adjusted, but that with an open mind, the conditions themselves can form a creative impulse for an endless array of new creative ideas. And, therefore, there is not an obstacle which creative mind cannot overcome.
In the Covid19 situation, the social distancing and physical separation are representing already a very strong limitations, so adding additional obstacles is not really necessary. Students will create a short story strictly within the limited conditions they have available and restricting dramaturgical parameters. The learning outcome is the realization that limited possibilities are a source of creative inspiration for innovative formal and narrative approaches. Total: 17 students. (students' division into groups is posted in the moodle page of the course - https://moodle.amu.cz/course/view.php?id=546)
The students will work in groups of 3 or 4. The groups will be selected by the supervisor of this exercise. Each group will shoot a short movie, up to 3 minutes long.
Basic situation:
Characters A and B are in a certain relationship - a couple, siblings, best friends, etc. They are now in different places, trapped in their apartments/rooms, as a brutal pandemic has engulfed the globe. The characters live alone in their homes, only communicating with each other online /Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp, etc./.
The aim of this exercise is to create an interesting dramatic situation and shoot it using the available resources.
Procedure:
- Script /max. 2 pages/: Consulting their mentor, each group will create a short script. Deadline: 22nd April.
- Casting: Each group will cast 2 of their members as A and B. Deadline: 22nd April.
- Storyboard /max. 20 shots/, directing, shooting: Based on the storyboard, characters A and B will record themselves so as to create a dramatic situation consisting of shots and the recorded online conversation. Deadline: 6th May.
- Editing: The group will edit the filmed material and will consult the editing with their mentor. Deadline: 14th May.
The group will submit the finished project (a link) to the supervisor on 19th May 2020.
