Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students, upon the end of the course, will have an overview of contemporary theory review of global and local infrastructure. They will be able to independently develop their practice using arts research methods. The course is also to develop independent interpretation and working with information skills.

Mode of study

Instruction is through text classes supplemented with introductory presentations, and group workshop practicals. There is also excursions to the field and lectures by foreign guests.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Independent creative activity, ability to link artistry with theory review, courage to adopt new methods and desire to work in a group.

Course contents

This course covers an analysis and theory review of infrastructure as a material requirement for the political economy of Capitalism. The course will research global logistics networks, digital platforms, military infrastructures, special economics zones, industrial parks or modern extra-activism tools.

Assessment methods and criteria

Requirements for completing the course is the ability to understand an academic text in English, regular attendance, preparation of readings references and independent artistic-research activity during the course.

Note

Lukáš Likavčan je teoretik a výzkumník. Ve své práci se věnuje filosofii technologií a politické ekologii. Vystudoval filosofii na FF MU v Brně, studoval také sociologii na Boğaziçi University v Istanbule. Působil na Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht a BAK, basis voor actuele kunst Utrecht. Jako výzkumník a tutor je součástí spekulativního think-tanku The New Normal na Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design v Moskvě.
