Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course main aim is a systematic introduction of HAMU with intersections between culture and art.
Mode of study
Lectures supplemented by screenings of artistic works and documentaries about art and culture.
Prerequisites and co-requisites
No requirements.
Course contents
The course aim is the introduction of HAMU students to the intersection of culture and art. The course is designed as four semester course divided into the following blocks:
- Ancient civilization
- Arts and culture in the European tradition from the antique to the 19th century.
- Culture and the arts in the 20th century and the present.
- Extra-European cultures
Individual topics are lectured by experts and specialists from various departments and institutes at Charles University and Czech Republic Academy of Sciences. Occassionally professors from schools outside of Prague and from Slovakia will lecture.
Recommended or required reading
The recommended study literature is assigned by the individual lecturers during the lecture cycle. Fundamental literature for all topics is located in the HAMU Library handbook and is intended for attendant study.
Assessment methods and criteria
To acquire credit students must fulfill the required number of points in the written test.
