Course contents

The next session in the Confrontations series of the Department of Cinematography seminars will present Václav Marhoul and Vladimír Smutný on March 10, 2020 at 7pm in the FAMU Screening Room (Floor 1). The seminar will have English translation and extracts from The Painted Bird will be screened.

About our guests:

Václav Marhoul

Václav Marhoul is a Czech scriptwriter, director, actor, producer, entrepreneur, cultural enthusiast and manager. As a manager, he acted as the CEO of the Barrandov Film Studios and as manager of the Tvrdohlaví (The Stubborn) Art Group where he also operated an art sales gallery under the same name. A graduate from the FAMU Production Department. His greatest success in the field of film has been The Painted Bird, released in September and shortlisted since by the Film Academy for Oscars in the International Feature Film category.

Vladimír Smutný

Vladimír Smutný is a Czech cinematographer, Professor in the Department of Cinematography at FAMU and the holder of seven Czech Lions for photography. He was the DoP of the Oscar-winning Kolya (dir. Jan Svěrák). He is presently lauded for his cinematography in The Painted Bird (dir. Václav Marhoul), shot on 35mm BW stock.
