Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will have at the end of the course an overview of contemporary theory review of the development of new technology, particularly digital platforms and artificial intelligence. Students will be able to independently analyse visual culture in its technological context with consideration of its existing theory review. This course is aimed at developing independent interpretation skills and working with information.

Výuka je vedena formou textových seminářů doplněných úvodním výkladem a diskuzí nad vizuálními rešeršemi. V rámci kurzu proběhne také terénní výjezd a přednáška zahraničního hosta.

Course contents
This course covers changes in contemporary visual culture. The first part of the course covers digital cultures and the second contemporary visual cultures whose production is more and more connected to machines. The core of the course is and overview of examples illustrating the relationship among visual culture, theory review and the development of technology. This overview is supplemented with readings about basic technical and operational images.

Předpokladem pro absolvování kurzu je schopnost porozumět anglicky psanému akademickému textu, pravidelná docházka, příprava výkazů z četby a vlastní vizuální rešerše.

Note
Lukáš Likavčan je teoretik a výzkumník. Ve své práci se věnuje filosofii technologií a politické ekologii. Vystudoval filosofii na FF MU v Brně, studoval také sociologii na Boğaziçi University v Istanbule. Působil na Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht a BAK, basis voor actuele kunst Utrecht. Jako výzkumník a tutor je součástí spekulativního think-tanku The New Normal na Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design v Moskvě.
