Learning outcomes of the course unit

This course is tailored to International students of various linguistic and cultural backgrounds, studying film and/or photography at FAMU. The course begins with the start of the A1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). The outout leve of the course is active knowledge of A1 level (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing).

Prerequisites and co-requisites

No previous knowledge of Czech is required.

Course contents

Czech pronunciation; Greetings; Basic phrases and questions; Question words: pronouns, adverbs; Yes/No questions, Wh-questions; Negation

Verbs: The verb to be and 1st– 4th conjugation of verbs in present tense; Modal verbs; Verbs to know; Repeated actions; Verbs of motion; Past tense; Basic imperatives

Nouns: Gender of nouns; Singular and plural of nouns; Cases: Masculine, feminine and neutral nouns, adjectives and pronouns in the Subject position (Nominative); Masculine inanimate, feminine and neutral nouns, adjectives and pronouns in the Direct object position (Accusative); Locative of places

Adjectives: Adjective in a nominal phrase, Agreement; Difference between Adjective and Adverb in Czech

Pronouns: Personal, Declarative, Reflexive, Possessive modifiers; Personal pronoun in direct (Accusative) and indirect (Dative) object position

Adverbs: Adverbs of position and motion, other adverbs

Prepositions: Position and motion; Basic prepositions

Word order, Position of Clitics in Present and Past tenses

Vocabulary: Film-related terminology; Phrases and idioms used on set; Vocabulary for A1 level according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;

Topics: School; Film; Photography; Shooting; Counting: Numbers 1 – 1 000 000; Cardinal and Ordinal Numerals; Calendar, Time, Times of the day, Days of the week, Months, Seasons of the year; Weather; Basic orientation in the school and in the city; Shopping; Restaurant; Bank; Renting an apartment; Travelling; Public transport; Parts of the body; Health; Feelings; Likes and dislikes, Rád and its constructions;
