Based on a rigorous integration of theory, examples of standard processing, unusual solutions, anomalies and, most importantly, an emphasis on their own work and experimentation, students will learn about the processing process both theoretically and practically.
In summary, students will gain a comprehensive overview of photographic image creation, modification and application. They will thus be fully capable of their own photographic creation.

Obsah kurzu
The course is focused on acquiring basic theoretical knowledge and manual skills so that students are able to apply the acquired knowledge in their own, artistically oriented, creation.
In the theoretical lectures, students will learn about the theory of the photographic process. They will gain knowledge about the principle of recording a photographic image, types and structure of photographic materials, their processing and evaluation.
In the course of practical exercises, they will build on the theoretical knowledge and acquire manual dexterity in processing photographic materials; they will become familiar with and learn to use in practice some specific processing techniques of the black and white processing process.
Main topics:
1-3/ Introduction to the course, theoretical lectures on the principles of photographic image recording and general scheme of processing black and white photographic materials.
4/ Developing negative materials (135, 120 and sheet film formats) - theoretical introduction, practical demonstrations, practical exercises
5/ Factors influencing the rate of development - theoretical introduction, demonstrations, practical exercises
6-7/ Types of photographic positive materials (substrates, surfaces, gradation, spectral sensitivity) - theory, practical demonstrations, practice
8-9/ Processing of positive black and white materials - theoretical introduction, practical demonstrations, practice
10-11/ Recording on colour materials and their processing - theoretical introduction, practical examples, practice
12/ Retouching and finishing of black and white prints
