Learning outcomes of the course unit
Pivotal dance types recording domestically in the 19th century presenting the cultural dance range which marks and is befitting to the historical context. The instruction aim is, based on dance notation in classical collections, to trace the folkdance repertoire in its changes in space and time. This covers the interpretation of dance notation, and understanding of the foundations of individual dance types and the nature of its variation.

Course contents
The course aim is to provides students with an idea of the changes in folkdance in relation to period and geography. As well, to introduce basic source material for the study of Czech folkdance (collections of folkdance) and learn to work with them (reconstruction dance from notation). Instruction combines theory study with dance experience. In the first semester the main content are dance reels as an example of rotating dance, three-beat dances (minet, sousedska). These are researched from the viewpoint of changes over time, variation in movement material, meter and number and groups of dancers.
