Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course aim is the ability to „see reality better“ and be able to analyze the diversity of its forms, shapes, lines, mass, color and lighting properties, the mutual relationships of objects and subsequent technique and potential of graphic expression.

The most important questions are in spatial perception and an understanding of reality, compositional relationships of objects and mass, composition nature issues and knowledge of the psychological aspects of color.

Mode of study

In painting a still life the students are guided to and understanding of individual elements as a material and forms of matter of autonomous actors in a scene. To be able to create living, rich and finally, organic wholes, each individual element must first have its own unmistakeable character.

Then that diversity may create a whole which has the expressive power of a depiction of the world „stopped in eternity“ - still life.

Painting a nude is not understood as merely a study of the human anatomy but a verification of the relationship of mutual body proportion, questions of light, color and matter, and also the expressive element of the position of the human body in the space of the world.
