Learning outcomes of the course unit
The hands-on practical class is geared to both beginners who desire to learn more about filmmaking as well as seasoned filmmakers who want to develop the craft of visualization. This semester-long course is modeled to help students find magic in the mundane while learning about essential filmmaking skills that will help them discover how to guide a film to completion including:
- Breaking down a scene
- Blocking the action
- Effective shot selection
- Directing the performance
- Fine-tuning the story in post-production

An open mind.
Imagination.
Interest in filmmaking beyond technical know-how
Course contents
Students will also learn a number of other filmmaking tools including:
- Ways of telling great stories
- Exploring analog as well as a digital medium
- Discovering the extraordinary in everyday life.
- Establishing strong characters
- Creating a mise en scène
- Acquiring the ability to communicate with the cast and crew
- Discovering the importance of post-production
